Thinking Of You Week Kicks Off

The annual event encourages the public to ‘send a card, deliver a smile’ and plenty of indie retailers are taking part with competitions and promotions this week.

Developed by the UK Greeting Card Association, Thinking of You Week was created as a vehicle to harness and promote the joy of sending and receiving greeting cards. During Thinking of You Week everyone is encouraged to reach out and connect with friends, work colleagues, loved ones and others just to keep in touch, share a joke, share a memory, say ‘hello’ or ‘thinking of you’.

Earlybird in Stoke Newington is running a design a card competition with Grazebrook, a local primary school. Heidi Early, co-owner told followers on Instagram: “We’ve asked their students to design a card they think would make somebody happy. In a few weeks we’ll be displaying them in our window and our customers will be voting on their favourites. The winning design will be printed by us and sold in store for a charity of the artist’s choice.”

Jane Rockett, owner of Axminster Print in Devon is also running a design your own greeting card competition, with the winner getting 50 cards printed of their design.

Design competitions are popular, with Hugs and Kisses in Tettenhall, Wolverhampton encouraging customers to design a card, with the winner receiving a goodie bag of a Jellycat soft toy, a Legami erasable pen, delicious chocolate and lots more.

Chirpy, a lifestyle gift store in Leeds has a competition on social media each day, with followers commenting on each day’s post and one comment picked at random for Chirpy to send a greeting card to a recipient of that person’s choice. Everyone who enters throughout the week will be entered into a competition on Sunday to win a free bundle of five cards.

Greeting card artist, Tracey Colliston from Ginger Betty will be at Stationery Supplies in Wilmslow on September 21 offering personalised sketches in exchange for a suggested donation of £5 to the East Cheshire Hospice. This unique event provides an opportunity to meet Tracey, watch her work, and take home a one-of-a-kind miniature artwork.
