Papier reports 300% sales rise since lockdown

Online personalised stationery brand Papier has reported that since Britain went into lockdown, it has seen sales increase by 300%. The brand told Grazia that demand across its range of greeting cards, writing paper, notecards and stationery sets has tripled in the past month.

This surge in demand for analogue writing products comes at a time when Google data shows searches for birthday cards are up 400% in the past month.

This comes on the back of an upward trend Papier spotted even before the pandemic kept everyone at home. Papier told us that the biggest group of buyers for correspondence stationery are aged between 25 and 35, with millennials leading the way on handwritten communication and proving this demographic isn’t driven to communicate by WhatsApp and email alone.

Papier’s founder and CEO, Taymoor Atighetchi, told us shortly before the pandemic: “More people are sending notes to friends, family and partners on notecards – we’ve been surprised at how fast our notecards category has grown over the past 3 years. We’ve sold more than 1 million notecards and pieces of writing paper since launching.”
