Chappell Roan won Best New Artist at the 2025 Grammy Awards and gave her emotional speech with a Leuchtturm1917 notebook in her hand.
When Chappell Roan took to the stage to accept her award for Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards on Sunday 2 February in Los Angeles, she did so with a speech prepared in a vanilla Leuchtturm1917 notebook, which matched her outfit.
The artist, who released her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess in September 2023, has burst onto the scene and become known for speaking up for LGBTQ+ rights. She used the platform of the Grammy Awards to advocate for artists asking the record labels “we’ve got you, but have you got us?”
At one point Chappell put down her award on the floor to turn the page of her notebook, giving full power to the words of her speech. Commentators noted how brave it was for an artist, and a new artist at that, to use the platform of the Grammys to speak out about artists’ rights.
