Rainbows Penpal Club competition to encourage more people to write letters.
Letter writers use just about every kind of stationery there is: from writing paper to washi tape, stickers and stampers, pens and pencils, notebooks and notelets, cards and envelopes and so much more; so it’s appropriate that letter writing features as part of National Stationery Week (May 13 – 19).
Marjorie Edwards, the founder of Rainbows Penpal Club says: “Not enough people write letters these days. Technology is fine if you’re in a hurry, but letter writing is a slow and intimate form of communication. You have to think of the person you are writing to, know the things they like, know about their family and hobbies and the time you take to write your carefully selected words is precious. To many, letters are a lifeline: the lonely, the housebound, the shy and those without a family. Then there’s those who are curious about cultures and countries and those who just love to hold a pen in their hands and see written words form on a pristine sheet. For them, letter writing is an absolute joy.”
The competition is simple, you just need to write a letter! There are three options:
1) Write a letter to your friend about the most exciting day out you’ve just had. Paint a picture in words of where you went and all the things you did .
2) You’ve been thinking about a friend you were once very close to a few years ago but you both lost touch. Write them a letter and tell them all about the intervening years.
3) You are going on a long awaited trip of a lifetime. Write to someone, telling them about your plans and convey the excitement you are feeling,
Letters should be no more than 750 words long, handwritten and sent by post to:
