With National Stationery Week just over one month away (13–19 May), here are some ideas on how retailers can get involved.
National Stationery Week (NSW) is all about entering into a stationery conversation with customers, spreading the word that #WritingMatters and encouraging people to enjoy using stationery in all its forms.
NSW ambassador, Sarah Laker has some ideas on how to engage with your customers over social media:
- Share your favourite suppliers/brands, talk about where they are based, who they are, why you like them, what eco-credentials their products have etc. Remember people buy from people, so the story behind the brand is so important.
- Talk about what stationery you sell. Ask your followers what their favourite stationery item is or do a poll about what stationery they love. Polls are great for social media engagement.
- Use the NSW stationery daily hashtags as prompts each day to share something about your shop, your stationery, or run a different special offer or giveaways each day of the week.
- Plan an activity to run during NSW; maybe a calligraphy or journalling event or demonstrate the use of products such as marker pens etc.
- How about running a design a card/letter writing/short story/poetry/handwriting/colouring competition. Ask one of your suppliers to support this with a prize or two.
- Use old stock to make up mystery bags- this could be pens, greeting cards, or a selection of stationery – either sell them for charity or leave around your town as random acts of kindness. Be sure to include a money off voucher for your shop plus all your social media handles and the NSW logo and hashtags.
- Consider a NSW window display to advertise what you’re doing during the week, and tag NSW when you post about it on social media.
Remember to tag NSW in any initiatives or posts that you do so that we can share them, and don’t forget to use the hashtags #NatStatWeek #WritingMatters #LoveStationery to help people find your posts.
National Stationery Week runs over Monday to Sunday, 13-19 May, this year, and encompasses the London Stationery Show on the Tuesday and Wednesday at the Business Design Centre in Islington – both now owned by Max Publishing and with founder Chris Leonard-Morgan back on board as a special advisor.
